Low Tide Adventures.
As summer winds down, our precious low tide days are coming to an end. What an adventure it’s been this summer visiting these magical coastal moments—I could honestly explore them every single day.
This weekend, my daughter and I spent time exploring the low tides in Oceanside, Oregon, and it’s definitely becoming our favorite coastal spot. There’s so much to love about this little gem: it’s incredibly close to home (just 15 minutes west of where we live), cozy and intimate, and refreshingly uncommercialized—no endless rows of tourist shops here.
The town keeps things simple with just three restaurants, and The Current, which is open most regularly, serves excellent coffee and delicious avocado toast that perfectly fuel our tide pool adventures.
The magic of tide pooling lies in the details—the more you look, the more you discover. Evelyn and I were particularly enchanted by a beautifully camouflaged crab we dubbed “Mr. Crabby Patty.” It’s amazing to witness my daughter’s transformation: she was at first nervous the crab would pinch her, but by the end of our adventure, she was gently petting Mr. Crabby Patty and calling him beautiful. These moments of watching the world unfold through her curious eyes are pure joy, and sharing these discoveries together creates memories I’ll treasure forever.
Your turn to explore! Have you ever ventured into the fascinating world of tide pools? I’d love to hear about your experiences—where did you go and what amazing creatures did you discover?
